The nice thing about winter sunrises is that you don’t have to get up so darn early to catch them!

That’s the truth! One of the things that I’ve liked about retirement though is that I can live a little like the birds do: rise with the sun and turn in after dark.

I would love to be able to step out on my deck and take a photo like that. 🙂 Because of the way our woods and land are situated in order to get a good sunrise I need to go down the road about half a mile to where there is a farmer’s field. Really like the contrast between the dark mountains and pines and golden clouds.

That’s what I have to do to get a decent sunset. I hike down by the river.
That small pine shows a lot of promise: it’s one of my favorite trees. In about 200 years it will be a replacement for the one whose needles you see on the left side. I probably won’t be here to see that though.

We enjoy the view in all seasons. The Clark Fork river is between us and the ranch at the left of the photo. It’s nice to not be crowded!

We really love this location for many reasons. This is a tiny piece of a ranch that was owned by my grandparents and I have roamed these mountains and fished the river below the house for over 60 years. The views have special memories.

Oh sure, rub it in. 🙂 We had a total of 5 days of winter (last week), which ended yesterday with temps back in the high 50’s. Not a bit of snow. But you certainly are lucky to have such a sunrise view, complete with a cup of coffee.

It’s pretty in winter and very pleasant in summer. In the evenings you can hear the river at a rapids down stream a ways.

Not a lazy shot … a wise one. By the time you would have put on a coat and boots to hike to a better spot, the colors of the sky would have been gone. The view from your deck is beautiful.

ya know… i’ve kinda missed not having any snow this winter. i might live to regret that statement in the coming weeks! this is a beautiful shot!! if i had that view from the deck i would be lazy all the time!!

One of the first things I do every morning is go for a walk with The Pointer and so I see that scene every day. Never have gotten tired of it!

I’ve noticed that with all this snow on the ground, the birds seem to be out and about earlier. I leave them a little food at night and then refresh the supply early in the morning. It gets their day off to a good start.

Beautifully composed. I especially like the delicate and feathery pine branches sharing the golden sunrise with the solid, implacable mountains. Such a nice contrast.

We have the privilege of sharing this small piece of real estate with that big pine on the left. It’s one of two Ponderosas here that I guess to be about 200 years old. The smaller pine is one of their offspring.

Fantastic colors. When looking at Your photo, I nearly feel how sun is rising at background. Golden rays are awesome when illuminating the sky.

How accurate are the colours? Only sunrise and sunset colours are often very difficult to capture accurately.

Those colors are nearly exact. I used spot metering on the clouds. A couple of days later there was one much more colorful and since, mostly dark rain clouds.

The timing was good, just after the dark phase and before the light was full. Spot metering really helps get the light correct too.
