That would be a fitting title. The light snow-clouds in front of the moon and the outline of an Antelope Bush which is a very important browse plant for deer an other hoofed animals during this part of winter.

When I first saw the moon rising tonight it was quite clear. By the time I got the camera into action snow clouds had taken away the sharp edges, but I tried a few shots anyway and liked this one.

I’m glad you did try it. Finding some atmosphere in the atmosphere is always tricky. This one is terrific.

We are finally getting some snow today. I think maybe a bit over six inches, so far.

It’s good to be getting snow, isn’t it! I’m hoping we will get at least that much here next week. The mountains are supposed to get 4 to 8 ft and they really need it!

Absolutely compelling. At first glance, I saw the “fingers” of the antelope bush holding up the moon, as if in offering. I think I’d call it “Winter Libation”. Beautiful.

This looks familiar! We had a tiny bit of snow last night and it is reeeeeally cold here tonight and supposed to get down into the single digits. I knew it was coming sooner or later. However, they say back to 50+ on Sunday! Love the photo… very different than your usual nature/landscape theme… nice to step out of the box every once in a while. Stay warm!

We are expecting a week or so of cooler weather and a good amount of snow. No temps as high as the 50’s: mostly 20’s for daily highs. In periods like this the wood stove is very comforting. We had a power outage for a couple of hours today and that old stove was really nice to have!

I love seeing the moon like that. Every night I go out for awhile around midnight, especially when it is snowing or when the moon is full. Lots of different moods with the moonlight!

This seems almost a negative version of your previous picture, the one showing the frost. Was that an intentional carryover or just happenstance? Either way the image is mysterious.

The chill was there, but where the clouds soften the moonlight it seems warmer somehow. I suppose that because the very coldest air comes here when the sky is clear, the suggestion of clouds also suggests warmth.

I always like your night shots for some reason. I remember the photo last year you took at night of your driveway and road under the arc of a outdoor light.

Thanks Jack. I love being outdoors late at night but seldom try any photographs. In summer I love the night sounds, especially of the insects in late summer. In winter, the moon on the snow and the cool breezes.

Such an amazing photograph, montucky, it really captures the feeling of a cold, snowy night. We’ve had very cold weather for the past couple days (-20C), but now there is rain in the forecast again. Winter is indecisive this year!

You have been colder than we have then. We were -9C last night. the new forecast for here is for up to 16 inches of snow in the valleys by Thursday and up to 8 feet new in the mountains. I sure hope that happens: we really need it.

Yes, the snow is beautiful. Snow has been falling here for nearly 48 hours now and it has gotten quite deep. I am very thankful for it, knowing how much the forest needs it an knowing that those deep snowbanks high in the mountains will now be able to sustain our watershed again through the coming summer.

It’s a conversion to B & W in iPhoto. Since, I’ve been experimenting with Black & White mode in the camera and I think I’ll like it better than the conversions.
