That is part of a rapids, one of three sets in about 2 miles. Not so good for a canoe, but kayaks sometimes go through. Not this time of year though.

Very beautiful photo with multiple layers (green, fall color, snow, black soil and river). To me it is interesting that the ground is not fully covered by snow.
Here we do not have snow and cold now. According to my calendar the weather was last year at this time -17 ºC = 1.4 ºF and snow of course. This morning we had 5 ºC = 41 ºF.

I don’t know what that tree is. Despite that it’s only a few hudred yards away directly, it would be a 15 mile drive and a hike to get to it.

Fine tree it is. I love the winter scene with the fast-flowing water. Yesterday it was 68 deg. F for a high. Perfect weather for outside chores. Up there in MT, I’ll bet you had to bundle up! A beaut of picture.

This time of year I admire your weather there. We have had a few days with temps in the single digits, but today was about 40 and it should get up to that again tomorrow. Tonight about 10.

I love the look of what I call “powdered sugar dusting” when winter is first trying to convert her canvas of colors. It’s a beautiful transition time.

Fall is beautiful and so is spring. The weather takes huge swings from day to day and week to week. About the only part I dislike is the periods of freezing rain.

It’s funny, but often when I’m in the forests I think of Charlie Brown’s little tree. Many start like that but it’s usually amazing how they turn out. Trees have an incredible will to live and flourish.

I just included about half of the river in the photo. It is an area of rapids and very beautiful in itself; difficult to photograph this time of year though because of the sun angle.

That tree and the contrast it presents can be seen from quite a distance. The far shore is a very good place for the ducks and geese because they are almost unapproachable there.

There are small trees like those at a place I used to travel. They never lost their leaves during winter. And when the wind would blow, the trees seemed to whisper.

I really don’t know what the little tree is, but I’ve seen it before and it will drop its leaves. They have stayed on late this year.

I hate to admit it, but I’m not good at all in identifying trees. I doubt that this one is an aspen though, judging from its shape and the color of its trunk. My best guess would be that its a small black cottonwood.

Luckily that little bit of color is still there. We are in a kind of drab part of early winter now. Not much color, but lacking the beauty of the snow. I suppose I should be content: it’s gentle on the wild creatures.
