Colorful afternoon

After taking advantage of a clear, sunny morning to finish up some work on the house, getting it ready for winter, I went out for a bike ride this afternoon and encountered some nice fall colors. It’s so good to see a more normal fall after the rather drab one we had last year. These photos were taken along a one mile stretch of a stream (Lynch Creek) about five miles from my home.

After many days of overcast and light rain, today began with a little sun to illuminate the fall colors.

Along the Todd Creek trail

Fall colors

The leaves are starting to develop their fall colors quite rapidly now. This small scene was on the hillside above the Todd Creek trail at about 5,000 feet yesterday. It will be exhilarating to try to keep up with the bursts of color!

And sure enough…

This summer I have noticed a new sign at the trail heads of many of the trails that I visit. It appears to be an interesting new research program that does a bear study by performing DNA tests on hair that is collected to gain a variety of information about the bears in the area. This sign was at the start of a trail I hiked on today:

Bear research

About a mile up the trail there was a small amount of barbed wire stapled to a tree right next to the trail and about two feet from the ground:

It’s interesting to know who your hiking companions are!

Munson Creek

There are a few fall colors showing but still not the full colors that we are hoping for. These are at the lower part of Munson Creek. There are just light tinges of color so far in the brush surrounding the old footbridge.
