Montana Outdoors
So very pretty..I love the reflection of the trees!

It was an interesting day. There was rain during the night and ominous clouds most of the morning. Then the sky starting in the north suddenly cleared and let the sun through. A photo taken a few minutes before this one had very drab colors.

I’ll bet you could cup your hands and drink from that water. It looks so pure. Now don’t tell me there is a cattle ranch upstream, Montucky. Beautiful, still water.

There is a small ranch upstream, Jack, about 25 miles up. This stream gets a lot of visitors, but it’s still clean and a fairly good trout fishery.

There are old cabins at various places along this stream, from back in the 1930’s. Some are still in use. The area is drawing more traffic these days though.

There’s nothing like a world without 90% humidity! This is what our skies look like in winter, after strong fronts have blown them clear and we’re down to 30% humidity. There’s a reason we call them “blue” northers!

There was a little rain the night before this was taken, but the humidity here has been in the 20%’s. That plus no large towns anywhere around and no pollution. We get those deep blue skies in winter too, usually when Arctic air sweeps down from Canada and drops our temperatures to -30°. If there’s snow on the ground then, it makes for some nice scenery!

Thanks Marcie. Yes, I chanced upon just the right light. Until a few minutes before that photo there were some heavy clouds in front of the sun.

That was a beautiful day. A couple thousand feet higher there was frost and above that, a light coat of new snow. Wonderful fall weather!

Some times I’m surprised at the blues that the camera sees. Yesterday I took a photo of a lake and the blues were somewhat like the ones in this photo. The sky is very clear now and that likely accounts for mush of it.

It’s still fishable, but not like it was back in the 40’s. About 24 miles downstream from where the photo was taken, Thompson River flows into the Clark Fork of the Columbia. Just below that point is an electric power dam that has blocked the river for many years. This summer, a fish ladder was completed to let the fish finally get upriver to spawn, and their range will include this stream. I’ve very excited about that and will be interested to see what effect it will have.

Your outstanding pics take me back to when I lived in Western Montana. Some of my travels took me over to Plains and Thompson Falls. Beautiful fall imagery!

This is a very pretty part of the country. I live between Plains and Thompson Falls and find it an excellent location with access to a lot of beautiful wild country.
