  1. Hey how lovely photos Montucky.

I love especially the first photo from the top and from bottom last and second last photo. In the last photo the path is very small, nearly visible, but is full of fall colors. I would like to walk there. Fantastic.

    • That’s a trail that I enjoy very much. It is part of a wildlife corredor as the large animals move from one large mountain to another. It’s quite wild with some good views and very pretty in the fall. Also a good place to pick huckleberries!

  2. I really do like the last photo. I’d title it “A River Runs Through It” – a river of color in the midst of the trees.

    • The red leaves of the huckleberry brighten up nearly all of the higher trails in the fall, making them very pleasant to hike on.

  3. Now THAT yellow is really yellow. Fall leaves do their best to compete with spring wildflowers in the color department.

    • They sure do. I think of the bright fall colors as the trees in “bloom”. The lower growing bushes have a variety of color, but the tall trees specialize in yellow.

    • The clouds are always interesting when seen from the higher trails, and storms can be very dramatic. I love to be there during rough weather!

  7. What a nice trail, and the views incredible, both near and far. I especially like looking out over the distant and higher mountains. What a place, Montana!

    • Those distant views are one of the things that I love most about hiking the high trails. My Dad introduced me to looking at the country that way when I was very young and I’ve loved it ever since.

  9. Is that a snowstorm overhead in the next to the last photo? Looks like fall is in full force in Montana… splendid photos!

    • We are in the part of the year where storms can be either snow or rain. That was a rather warm day, so I’m pretty sure it was just distant rain. “Full force” is an excellent way to put it. Today I saw that the larch are also in full color in many places.

  10. My favorite is the photo that shows row after row of mountains into the distance. Such a beautiful country you live in.

    • I love seeing those distant mountains too, Jack. Some bring me memories of times when I was hiking on and among them, others that I haven’t yet visited call out to me for a visit. Both are pleasant sensations!

  11. A beautiful series of photos. I especially like the 2nd one. So bright and golden. We had a rather drab fall with muted colors and most of the leaves have fallen now.

    • That’s what we had last year, but this year has been better. The leaves are falling now and the Larch has finally hit peak color.

    • That was a fairly open place on the ridge where there is enough light for the los bushes to grow. That trail has many places like that and it makes it very pleasant to hike there in the fall. In spring, it also has lots of wildflowers.

    • Yes, it’s very scenic, especially when you get away from the areas that have been attacked by development. Fortunately, there are still places like that here!
