    • That’s the little county road in front of our house. I walk there every morning when I take The Pointer for her morning walk. It’s a pretty place and let’s me see what the day will be like and do my own weather forecast, which is usually more accurate than the commercial version.

    • Our local weather here comes out of the southwest, over the Coeur d’Alene Mountains, and after they cross our narrow valley, they have to clear the Cabinets. Heavy clouds often just clear the mountains, which puts them about a mile over the valley. They are close.

  7. Beautiful!!! You have a very nice country road. Ours, in Arkansas, was rocks and dirt/mud!

    • This is a very old road. It was built in the very early 1900’s and in the second photo you can see the remains of a rock wall built there by the CCC program in the 1930’s. For many years it was the main highway through this part of western Montana. It was replaced in the 1940’s and became a simple country road, still used by a few people.

    • That’s sure true. At the start of a season I wish that it would just go on forever, then a few months later I find I have the same feeling toward the new one..

    • I’ve surely walked along that road many thousands of times. Yes, autumn is moving rapidly. The trees are turning very fast now; even the larch are starting to get orange.

  11. Hi Montucky, I especially like that second shot. I don’t know if those are Birch or Aspen or something else but the trees are spectacular! I will be changing Internet connections at the end of the week and will be spotty about commenting for awhile. I wanted to let you know so you won’t think I dislike your site or anything like that. Have a great coming week!

    • The bright yellows are black cottonwood with a few aspen among them. Thanks, I hope your internet change goes smoothly!

  13. A sight worth waiting for I would say! I’ll take some of that rain for sure… it’s been a long, long time here and no relief in sight it seems.

    • We went for about three months with high temperatures and no rain at all, then suddenly it changed. That’s fairly normal for us in the summer. Most folks are surprised to learn that in this area we get only about 17 inches of precipitation a year in the valleys. I think that you normally get much more than that and so it’s harder there when it’s dry.

    • They are black cottonwoods, a species related to the poplars and aspens.
