Montana Outdoors
OMG!!! it’s snowing and the temp is 70 degrees and almost midnight along with a tornado warning…strange weather!!! =o)

There have been a lot of weather changes this fall. We seem to be headed for an old fashioned Montana winter with lots of snow. We’re long overdue!

Makes me smile!!!! These are so beautiful! I’m thinking I need to put images of snow covered trees on my walls instead of red and yellow leaves… those are gorgeous! PS: Thanks for care and concern of my being cold. I’ve stayed at my mom’s a lot… thought the furnace was fixed today – but nope – blowing cold air and sounding like a spinning wash machine! Off at the breaker again – but at least it’s warmer outside (and inside now!)

If I had a very large house it would be good to decorate a room for each month of the year, then one with wildlife, one with wildflowers,…
It’s probably good that you are going through the furnace problems when it’s relatively warm and they fix it before it gets very cold again. It’s also good that you are close to your Mom!

I like the snow too, Candace. For the last week or so the falling snow was very much like that. Our weather has been good (in the high 20’s with snow in the air at times) and I’ve taken long walks just to get out and enjoy it.

That’s one of my favorite views Robin. My home is just above the river on the right side of the photo and I fish that stretch of river in summer, hunt in those mountains in fall and have done both off and on for over 60 years.

The falling snow is courtesy of WordPress: they do that every December. I think it fits in pretty nicely with most of the scenes I see here in winter. When there is new snow and a little sun, there are pretty scenes everywhere.

Hi Montucky, Gorgeous! Send some my way here in Cumberland County, TN, will you? We just got a bit of sleety graupel this morning. It is cold enough but the clouds and conditions are not wet or ripe enough for good quality snowflakes to form. I will continue to hope…

Oh… I cannot pick a favorite from these images! All of them are gorgeous… and so reminiscent of WY/MT winters of my childhood. Makes me homesick and I don’t much care for the cold any more! (I posted a couple of images on my blog today… of my spring-blooming Camellia which has decided to burst into bloom in the fall this year… due no doubt to an early cold spell followed by several weeks of unseasonably warm weather.)

I’ve gotten to the point that I don’t like the cold much when it first comes, perhaps because now it takes me a little longer to acclimate to it, but then I start to enjoy it and by spring I just crave the cold wind on my face and the serenity of the snow.

I love this set. The road and the river shots are my favorites. It looks like Montana doesn’t use salt on the roads. Or is that a country road?

That’s a country road now. Many years ago it was the main highway through this area. It sees a plow once in awhile and maybe a little sand. Just the way it should be!

Thanks Tricia. The falling snow comes from WordPress. That effect can be turned off for those who live in warmer regions. The snow comes whether we want it or not. Most choose to enjoy it and many love to go play in it: I fit in both categories.

I love all of these photos. I scrolled many times up and down to admire the beauty “Winter Wonderland” You have captured.
Your pines are more beautiful than we have here. The second photos show some which are looking like those we have here.

These photos are mostly of Ponderosa Pines. Their clumps of long needles catch and retain the snow sometimes for days and makes them look as though they have been decorated and also makes them a good subject for winter photos.

There is a similar tree, although a bit smaller, in our front yard on which we do string lights. It looks a little strange out in a lonely country setting, but we like it.

the valley in which I live and where these photo were taken is about 2,500 feet. It is surrounded closely by mountains that top out at around 7,000 feet.
