Winter day

The temperature today stayed in the single digits and we had nearly a foot of new snow, but there was time for a short elk hunt this afternoon. Yes, it was every bit as cold as it looks!

  1. it looks so beautiful! it was 73 here. i’m so ready for winter.

    • 73 sounds pretty good at the moment! Winter finally came here. Our sky cleared tonight and it’s now -2°. This may become the first old fashioned Montana winter that we’ve had in years.

  2. we are at 75 degrees now at 11pm! I hear that your cold front is heading this way…though it will look nothing like that when it gets here

    • This is a very big, strong and cold weather front. It has also hit the Pacific northwest and there have been some serious problems there because of it. Here at least we are prepared for this kind of weather, although folks who have moved her from warmer places don’t fare as well sometimes, especially on the highways. Yesterday I drove a hundred miles on snow pack and ice taking our dog to the vet and that was good for me to get re-calibrated to winter driving.

  3. Great winter weather captures. Truly, I just love the snow and the last photo.

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving! 🙂

    • The photos are a little dark, but that was what it looked like. Snow on the ground and in the air.

  4. They’re callin’ for some of that white stuff around here tomorrow, but it won’t happen… never does!

    • Our snow stopped for the time being, but I’m sure there will be more to come. This won’t melt for some time either.

  5. The life of a mountain family. Enjoy the starkness of it all and hope you get enough for next year’s Spring renewal.

    • Exactly, Scott. When that white stuff piles up real high in the mountains it will provide good water all summer.

  6. And overcast, too. It seems that most of your photos have blue, blue skies so this is unusual.

    • With the cold front also came snow and snowy skies. that day was especially cold and dark. We do get quite a few days like that in winter. Today it is snowing lightly and everything is white including the sky.

  7. Nice photos both. I prefer the last photo to the first. Those slanted trees are great. Are they on some rock?

    Comment by sartenada — November 26, 2010 @ 7:57 am

    • Yes, that’s a very rock hillside that they are on.
