From out of the past…
Tonight as I looked back at some of this year’s photos I came across this image. It was scanned from a not-too-good photo that was taken during an archery elk hunt in 1980 in Colorado’s San Juan Wilderness. It struck me as funny that when I first looked at the old photo I recognized the horses but didn’t immediately recognize the person (me).

That is funny – but maybe it’s because the photo is a little dark??? Beautiful country though!

That was a short spell of sun in a week of rain. Great trip though!

I do like to ride, but those horses belonged to the outfitter. Very good ones, too!

I’d love to take that trip again! We were 27 miles into the wilderness for 9 days.

I love it! Will you send me a copy? Why wasn’t I on the back of the horse with you? hehe Love you Dad!

Hi Hon! I just emailed you the photo. At that time, you would have just about fit into a saddle bag! Other than that, you would have loved that trip!

I like photographs that tell a bit about the person. This one does, even if you don’t remember it. Do you still have horses?

I wish I had horses! No, these were the outfitter’s. I’m kind of thinking about getting a horse now though. (Those trails are getting steeper and longer every year!)

Not much of a cowboy, but I do love horses, especially good trail horses.

I wonder of sometimes we are to busy to really be ourselves.

What a great photo, looks almost like a painting to me. And it’s great to see a picture of you out on the land you love.

That really is a great place to be. It’s so good that we still have wilderness!

Oh, way cool! So very western. I really like the photo. What freedom to ride on a great horse in the wide and rugged countryside!

That was a wonderful trip, Anna. I love being in wilderness places anyway, and the horses let us cover and enjoy much more of it. We hunted just above timber line and camped about a thousand feet below.

Nice to see a pic of you at last (are there any others here?) even if you’re shrouded in mystery… er, shadow!

Nice horses. I see from a comment above that you want to get a horse for yourself now. I hope you do – and I hope you take some photos of the both of you.

Hey, hey this is so great. I really love to see old photos. In my eyes You could be a very respected cowboy!
I have taken photos from photos and they are succeeded quite well.

Here in Montana, every young boy wants to be a cowboy and many do. The rest of us are just part-timers, but the desire never entirely goes away.

Too funny that you didn’t recognize yourself… definitely looks like an “old west” image!

That was about as close to the “old west” as I could get, and pretty close it was at that. It was a week spent back about a hundred years ago.
