From out of the past…

Filed under: Hunting — montucky @ 10:54 pm

Tonight as I looked back at some of this year’s photos I came across this image. It was scanned from a not-too-good photo that was taken during an archery elk hunt in 1980 in Colorado’s San Juan Wilderness. It struck me as funny that when I first looked at the old photo I recognized the horses but didn’t immediately recognize the person (me).

  1. That is funny – but maybe it’s because the photo is a little dark??? Beautiful country though!

    • I do like to ride, but those horses belonged to the outfitter. Very good ones, too!

    • Hi Hon! I just emailed you the photo. At that time, you would have just about fit into a saddle bag! Other than that, you would have loved that trip!

  5. I like photographs that tell a bit about the person. This one does, even if you don’t remember it. Do you still have horses?

    • I wish I had horses! No, these were the outfitter’s. I’m kind of thinking about getting a horse now though. (Those trails are getting steeper and longer every year!)

    • That was a wonderful trip, Anna. I love being in wilderness places anyway, and the horses let us cover and enjoy much more of it. We hunted just above timber line and camped about a thousand feet below.

  11. Nice to see a pic of you at last (are there any others here?) even if you’re shrouded in mystery… er, shadow!

Nice horses. I see from a comment above that you want to get a horse for yourself now. I hope you do – and I hope you take some photos of the both of you.

  12. Hey, hey this is so great. I really love to see old photos. In my eyes You could be a very respected cowboy!

I have taken photos from photos and they are succeeded quite well.

    • Here in Montana, every young boy wants to be a cowboy and many do. The rest of us are just part-timers, but the desire never entirely goes away.

  13. Too funny that you didn’t recognize yourself… definitely looks like an “old west” image!

    • That was about as close to the “old west” as I could get, and pretty close it was at that. It was a week spent back about a hundred years ago.
