Final bursts of color
Yesterday, the forecast was for a heavy snow during the night, but a quick look at the rain gauge this morning showed that we received an inch of rain instead. And near the rain gauge the Pansies were covered with raindrops.
Tonight, the previous forecast seems to be coming true: the ground and trees are white and the air is filled with beautiful big snowflakes.

Thanks Roberta. It’s about 10PM here now and the flower is resting under a blanket of fresh snow.

Thanks Marcie. The illumination was from our yard light. Exposure: f5.3 @ 1/4 second ISO 200.

Such a contrast in photos — summer and winter in one day. Your pansy photo is a stunner. Such detail! And your pine tree looks like it’s flocked and ready for Christmas decorations!

I liked the contrast too. This morning everything looked like it was flocked. The snow was wet and sticky and now it is rapidly melting.

Hi Montucky, Ohh, Ahh! The vividness of that ruby red gem-like image! I am awed by that night-time image as well. Great camera work! Have a super nice Wednesday!

We ended up with about 3 inches of the white stuff. The forecast says more on the way in a few days.

The tree is perfect. You don’t often see flowers and snow in the same post.

The photos were taken about 14 hours apart. This is the kind of weather that can get back country travelers in trouble.

Snow already? We actually had a few flakes today and i truly mean a few. The photograph of the tree makes me want to walk in a winter wonderland. I’ll be ready for spring right after the walk! ; )

For a few hours this morning it did look like a wonderland, but then much of the snow melted. More snow is expected as well as some Arctic air next week. Hope it doesn’t get as far as KC! After a bout with sub-zeros, I’ll be ready for spring too!

So the other flower in the snow is a pansy. I love the color. It is even prettier covered with the raindrops.

Yes, we have quite a few pansies still blooming, even after a dozen nights in the 20’s. This one is the largest and I think the prettiest. At times it even looks black.

Outstanding. The flower with raindrops is lovely and vivid. Snow, indeed. We had snow yesterday afternoon that came down in fat clumps.

Most of that snow has now melted, but this weekend we will be getting into sub-zero temps and perhaps a bunch of snow along with it.

That’s a pine about 30 years old that lives in our back yard. It seems to be in a perfect location to be decorated whenever a good snow comes in.

That was about the peak of that flower’s bloom, and also the last of it. Our temperatures will be in the -10F range for the next several days. I’m glad I caught it when I did!

The raindrops on the pansies are gorgeous and so is the snow on the pine. Almost gets me in the holiday mood.

Well, there’s always winter in the Flagstaff area. I heard that Prescott Valley will be getting snow tonight. I don’t know if it’s still possible, but we used to get a Forest Service permit to cut a Christmas tree north of Payson and that got our holiday spirit started.
