Still Autumn

A few days ago it looked as though winter was on our doorstep. Now the forecasts have changed and despite fairly heavy snow at the higher elevations, Autumn has stayed for awhile in the valleys of western Montana.

  2. The Belgian horses are beautiful! Are they yours?

I really love the bottom photo! I could live there easily!

    • The horses are kept in a very large piece of land with everything they need and seem to be pretty much to themselves. They are very friendly and will nuzzle you if you visit. Almost too friendly because they are so big. I have to be careful around them to avoid being stepped on.

    • They are real beauties, and so tame and friendly that they must have been worked with a lot.

  4. A sight you hardly ever see these days. Horses in a wilderness setting. They only add to the beauty.

    • They do live in a wild setting, although ultimately they are fenced in. I’d guess they have a hundred acres or so to themselves.

  5. I love the Belgian horses. They are gorgeous! If they are allowed to roam there, how fortunate for them. The last photo is outstanding!

    • I think they are quite fortunate, not being confined.

The last photo is a back water of the river just a dozen miles away.

  7. Oh, how gorgeous especially the colors in the last photo. I can’t believe that your autumn is almost gone! Those horses are beautiful, do they belong to someone?

    • Many of the trees in the last photo have already shed their leaves. Right now is a mixture of Autumn and early winter.

Yes the horses belong to someone, but I really don’t know much about their situation. In spring time I fish through there and the horses are very friendly then, to the extent of being a bit pesty. They each weigh over a ton.

        • A friend who knows much more about horses than I do informed me that these average out to be larger than the more famous Clydesdales. They are huge!

    • Yes, those horses are something. They are usually on the other side of the trees, but they seem to enjoy the water.

    • Thanks Preston. That’s still a pretty spot, but in other years there were far more colored leaves along there. It’s a little side channel of the river.

    • I like the horses too. Usually I see them from their side of the river but haven’t been to get a good photo of them there. This time they were out in the open and I had a telephoto lens with me.
