Colder temperatures have finally reached the valleys in western Montana and with them have come more autumn colors. I don’t think it has peaked yet, but it’s pretty none the less.

Thanks Roberta! Last year we had a very early very cold freeze that froze the leaves on the trees and there were practically no bright colored leaves at all. I’m happy that this year the colors (most of them) have returned.

I imagine the colors in your area are very pretty! You have a lot of deciduous trees, don’t you? The picture of the creek was taken near where it enters the big river. The beavers have put in two small dams on it just below that spot. I will try, one of these evenings, to sneak in there and get some pictures of them, but they seem to be doing their work at night though, so I’ll have to see.

That road is in front of my house. The colorful section is only a half mile long, but thoroughly enjoyable

At my age I have to work hard to stay in shape for hiking Robin, but it’s well worth the effort to be able to see the beauty of the country.

Ah, love those golden larches. I think autumn colors against the evergreens of mountain are a perfect combination.

Yes, I like the contrast of green and gold too. It’s extra nice to walk down a road or trail when the larch has turned color because as they lose their needles the ground itself becomes golden.

I walk that road every single day. THere is a large variety of plants along it and so everything is constantly changing.
We do have black bears visit fairly regularly through there, and they will sometimes cross the river just below.

I would prefer the snow to record highs, although now that the mountain tops are snow covered the breeze that blows down from there has an entirely different feel to it!

That storm has sure made the news. I think it is the one that came in off the Pacific directly into San Francisco. It delayed my daughter’s flight by three hours on Sunday. We just had a trace of it.

You’re right, it is very coarse grass and although it doesn’t look it, it’s quite tall. The beavers have dug canals through it too and at times you can step in one and find that grass is far over your head. (The trick is to step only into one that isn’t full of water!)
