I moved this one for the photo. For some reason it wanted to climb on one of the window screens. There is still plenty of food available for it with the mild weather we have been having.
Wow, what an amazing photo! I saw a giant mantis on our house yesterday, but it was too high up for me to get to (and near a wasps’ nest). I saw it take a swipe at some of the wasps.
I haven’t seen them go after wasps, but I suppose they know what they’re doing. I like to have them around the garden. This one was about three inches long.
Very cool! Green definitly works for him!

It does at the moment, but he will soon have to look pretty hard to find the right background!

It is for them! The last time I tried to take a photo of one, it reached up for the camera!

Now this guy definitely is green!! Wow… I think I’m glad they don’t live here though. I’m not exactly a bug kinda gal… though this image is great! ;o)

These are pretty peaceful, unless of course you are an insect. They tolerate being handled as long as you are very gentle with them.

That is such a crisp photo, was that with your macro? They’re actually one of the few insects I enjoy seeing.

Yes, it was with the macro lens. This guy was calm enough to let me get very close.

What a lovely Praying mantis in its vivid green! Made me smile. I wonder, did the Praying mantis smile for the photo? 🙂 Great macro.

I think the mantis was enjoying himself. After the photos I put him back on the window screen and he stayed there for a long time.

Sorry, sandy. I guess sneaking that photo in there among the long range landscapes was a bit of a shock.

Thanks! This one was easy, with a willing subject. I’ve always liked the mantis and this one is really a nice example of them.
