  1. Amazing shots! I don’t know if we have this variety of Fritillary here. It’s just beautiful and great to be able to see in these life-size images!

    • It is a very pretty butterfly, isn’t it, and it seems to be one of the late summer ones too.

    • This little guy visited our house and liked that plant enough to stay around. I couldn’t really get close enough for a shot with a macro lens though: these were shot with a 70-300mm VR lens at 300mm.

PS: Thank you for the wishes for my mom yesterday – she loved them!

I hope your Mom had a great birthday, Stacey!

  4. These are beautiful photos with the complimentary colors of the flowers to the butterfly! They would make awesome wall hangings!

Hey, Montucky – I’m traveling and surrounded by mountains right now — so beautiful! I do love the mountain states.

  6. This is a bit different from our silver bordered fritillary. What a good shot it makes with the flowers in the background. It is perfect for fall.

    • It is definitely a fall shot. When I saw the little guy’s interest in the marigolds I knew I had to get the camera.

  12. They’re all beautiful shots, I can’t even pick a favorite and the fall colors are perfect. You need to make some fall cards out of these. Gorgeous!

    • These colors do fit in with fall, but in general our fall colors haven’t really shown up yet. Just a few patchy areas. I’m hoping for much more!

    • That little butterfly just stayed around and I appreciated the change to photograph him! Usually I try to use a macro lens on them but this time there was no chance for that and so I used a zoom. I was happy at how they turned out anyway.
