One thousand

WordPress “stats” tells me that this is post number one thousand in this blog. Without commenting on the mental state of anyone who makes that many posts, I will simply offer some photos taken a week ago in my favorite kind of place, a roadless area; this one being the Baldy Mountain Roadless Area in the Cabinet Mountains of western Montana. They are from the top, or near the top, of the mountain at just about 7,500 feet; 5,000 feet above the valley below. I wish it were possible for everyone to make the hike up there with me!

    • This is a very beautiful part of the country and it’s quite photogenic. Most of my scenery photos are taken away from the roads and I’m very thankful for the Forest Service trails in those places that have been preserved and maintained for so many years and provide hiking and horse access. This summer and last, the trail maintenance (and even some trail building) has been supported by some of the economic stimulus money and I think they have used it very well.

  3. Congratulations on 1000! I have been a regular lurker, uh, reader for some time and have enjoyed and marveled at every photograph – and I, too, wish I could have been on your hikes – heck, your photos have even made me want to move to your fair land. Keep up the good work!

  6. Love your mountains, montucky. I’m back in the flatlands, and I’m already missing the Olympic and Cascade ranges. And Mt. Rainier, too.

I DO so love the mountains!

    • Thanks Anna. I love getting up high this time of year and seeing the snowbanks. The snow was melting and there were tiny streams of water from them running down the trail.

  9. Good work Terry, I started watching about number 500, but have gone back in your archives and looked at most of the others. I can’t hike anymore, but enjoy seeing the places I have been and especially those I haven’t. Rich

    • Thanks Rich! If I can I want to move around a little more this summer. I’m hoping to Hike Sundance Ridge from Vermillion Pass to Thompson River among others. I’ve also hear that Cabin Lake is very pretty and will fit that in soon.

  11. These photographs remind me eloquently that there still are cooler climes in this world! I am so tired of the heat here that I feel I’ll melt away inconspicuously any day without anyone noticing!

    • I know what it’s like, living in high temperatures. We will get hot here in August, but we can still get into the high mountains and cool off a bit and our nights are cool even then.

    • I sure find it worth the effort. The road to the trail head is short and the trail is good, although it does have a 1,400 foot vertical to it. Once above the trees though you forget about everything else.
