    • A mile after this, there were about 50 open. I’ll post photos of them. Don’t know if I can find this one again, although with its apparent attitude it might be worth a try.

    • This is one of the first buds of that species that I have found this spring. After hiking another mile I found more, these in full bloom.

    • I thought it a bit strange that this was the only one around in that spot: perhaps it is part of an advance party. They will appear in great numbers in another week or two.
