Ranch pond
On a short hike today the fog began to close in rapidly causing me to cut the hike short. As I returned to where I had parked, I was drawn to the colors of a willow tree (to the left in the first photo) that grows beside a pond on a ranch at the bottom of the canyon, and I decided to venture down near it for a photo.
Upon taking that photo, I was drawn to the tree in about the center of the photo and framed it for another shot which I liked even better than the first. Something about the fog…
There is always a beautiful scene (or one that I consider so) awaiting those who pass by.

I love that poem too. Happy solstice to you too! This is one of my favorite days, knowing that the days will now be getting longer and the return of Spring is closer.

Oh, she beat me to it! I love that poem. I like the second composition, too. Might need a tad more exposure to brighten the white snow. Though, with the gray sky, this might be fine. Only you know for sure, Terry. š

I agree Scott, I would like the foreground snow a little brighter but when I lighten it I lose some of what I like about the tree. To get the shot I used some zoom rather than move closer and try the strength of the ice which didn’t seem like a good plan. Perhaps the lens picked up more of the fog (a guess).

The timing was lucky because in another half hour, the fog had taken over the whole scene.

I do love them. I seldom go out looking for something to shoot, instead I just wander around and explore and if something does that then I go for it. It’s amazing how often it happens.

Wow! When I saw these photos reveal as the page loaded, I said wow! LOL These are beautiful! The tree and fog truly sets the images off with a pop. I love the top photo.
