Reminded
On a hunt today, as I hiked along the Murr Creek trail and looked at the creek splashing and cascading through its canyon far below and wished it were easier to get down there (and that I had lashed my tripod to my pack), I remembered that I hadn’t posted this photo taken a couple weeks ago on Spring Creek, 50 miles away, but still in the Cabinet Mountains. It will have to do for now until the weather clears. (I’ll probably hunt in snow tomorrow.)

Another beautiful picture! I love the foliage to the side of the photo. Is it an evergreen tree? It looks kind of prehistoric! =)

Thanks! Those are the lower branches of a young cedar. I liked the way they sort of swept into the frame.

There is a lot of beauty hidden back in these small canyons. So many people never get to see them because of the distance from the roads and they are either just unable to hike in there or unwilling or afraid.

The moss next to the cascading water and rock makes the scene seem primordial. Very cool.

Didn’t see any, but I won’t say they aren’t there. In a week or so that might be a place to go to see some ice along the stream though. That will be pretty!

the moss is definitely a thing to behold. no wonder moss doesn’t grow here… obviously it likes it cold and wet. do you ever meet up with brother bear on any of your hikes? i presume you are armed with more than just a camer… just in case of course.

Yes, the moss does like it cold and wet and this canyon is both, plus quite dark.
I see black bears frequently, seven this summer and three of those were right in this immediate area. I love seeing them! So far I’ve seen Grizzly sign in several areas but I haven’t run into one of them.
Yes, I almost always carry a .357, but more because of cats than bears.

Love it, Terry. The water is blurred perfectly and the lush greens set off the image very nicely. Good work. Hope the hunt is going well.

Thanks Ed! Our hunts always are great: sometimes we even bag something. Today’s was really special: my son was so close to a big buck that he couldn’t get a shot, and he thought it was probably the best hunt he’s ever had!

Another captivating shot, I like the subtle diagonal that pulls the eye with the water from upper left to lower right. Hope you have a productive hunt, in a setting like that how could it not be?
