This is my favorite sunset view. The peaks of the Cherry Peak roadless area are on the left, the Clark Fork River is center and KooKooSint Ridge is on the right.
There are often very colorful sunsets in that setting but I seldom see them in time or when I have a camera with me. This time I caught at least most of one.
Red sky at night, sailor’s delight…. It appears you’ve proved this adage wrong! Heavy rain here last night more to come in Glacier. What a beautiful photograph!
Yes, I see the forecast is for heavy rain in Glacier. We had a beautiful light show last night with (fortunately) at least some rain. At about 1:30 I got up and started putting on my wildland fire clothes but then it rained and as far as I know nothing started.
It can be a light and color show, Stacey, especially on a night when there are a few more clouds and a little more smoke in the air. Then it’s like watching a slide show.
The “big sky” has been so smoky lately around here from the fires in BC that it has not been blue, but some of the sunsets have been colorful. We’re having a hard rain now though and that will clear up the air, at least for awhile.
it is awesome view . beautiful photograph.

Makes me homesick every time I see this page. *sigh* Any work for an area specialist on Latin America in Montana these days?
Beautiful photo.

Jason, I know exactly how you feel! Been there! Montana has always been a tough place in which to find a job and it’s worse than usual at the moment.

Of course I like the color, Silken, but also three of my favorite areas are in silhouette.

How fortunate we are to have a sunrise and a sunset in every day! Love this capture–such deep reds!

It is a pretty scene, isn’t it! You know I’ve never had a large image printed. Perhaps some day.

It is. As the canyon narrows at that point there is often a complete change of weather too.

I like that too. At my house I don’t get a full look at the sunsets: I need to remember to go look for them more often.
