As you know, we’re in our hot and dry time of the year and the asters and daisies seem to like that. With all of the purple around, I nearly just passed this one by, but upon looking closer, I found it was a different species than the others that I had photographed earlier. I don’t know what the “giant” and “great” in its name is about, because it’s really not very big. Has a pretty home though, close by the water in Lynch Creek.
That is one super image, Terry. Great color. Great detail. And beautiful, complementary background. That could have made a nice vertical image as well. Did you shoot any that way?
I hate to admit it, but this shot was almost an afterthought and I only shot the one frame of the bud. I took several of the fully open ones which were down in some very tall grasses, but I liked this one best. Maybe some day I’ll learn.
This site has made me use up all my descriptive adjectives! I guess I could use a bit of “short hand” and simply stamp “ditto” on each and every one of your posts! 😀
Great job. Outstanding colors. But of course, you only captured it. 😀
WOW! Beautiful capture!

Love that simple composition and the little strand of a spider web!

I was struck by that strand of web too. It is a very powerful reminder of the vital interdependence of the natural world.

It’s small. I have no idea where the “giant” part of the name came from. I’ve not seen these around before this year: maybe they are a subspecies.

One of your best, like the background blur, it sets up the subject.

Thanks, rvewong. That lens has a very shallow depth of field and blurs the background, but I like that most of the time.

It is a pretty little thing, isn’t it! Seems that the only optimism I have any more is in the beauty of the flowers.
