Early Blue Violet
Sunday afternoon I was overjoyed when I came upon this pretty little face just a few feet above the Munson Creek trail; the first violet I’ve seen this year. It was all alone.
Yesterday, when I saw that there was rain in the air, I just had to try to find it again. The trail head isn’t all that far from my home, and I sure wanted to see raindrops on that blossom! After some searching (they’re pretty small), here is what I found:

There will be more higher up the trail in a few weeks and in about a month the yellow one will appear. I do enjoy violets!

One of the photography books I read lately said that one of the tricks photographers do is to carry a spray bottle with them to “create the rain” for their flower shot. I’m so glad to hear that you didn’t “cheat”! The images are lovely.

I know folks do that, but most of my photos are taken quite a distance from the roads and carrying a spray bottle wouldn’t be convenient. I tend to capture what I see in nature without too many changes. About all I do is sometimes remove a few things like dead pine needles from in front of or behind a subject.

Excellent photograph! I have the most difficult time capturing images of violets. 😦

They are pretty small and their color is rather subtle. I keep trying different things, not all of which work. All part of the learning process!

Catching those droplets just ready to roll off the petal is amazing! Great timing!

I’ve always liked taking photos in the rain. It makes for some interesting shots!

Yes, we have about 500 pounds of them in the lawn too. This is a little different version though, probably a first cousin.

I put off mowing my grass as long as I could because I didn’t want to mow the violets down..they are so sweet…

Me too. This time of year there are many patches in my lawn that are un-mowed because of violets and grape hyacinths.

Very pretty. Very sharp. Love the dewdrops/raindrops. They set off the flower perfectly.

Thanks Ed. To me there’s nothing prettier than a wildflower with raindrops on it.

Oooo!! I love the middle one with the drop just poised to fall off the tip of the petal.
And such a gorgeous color!

It seemed like the petals just didn’t want to release the drop of water after our long dry spell here.

Yes,Patia, if you haven’t been out, you need to go! No snow on the ground, pretty good amount over about 5,000 feet. The lower part of most of the trails are open.

These are gorgeous closeups, Montucky. I especially like the 2nd photo!!! These are excellent captures of the beautiful violets.
I noticed we had some of these, I think, growing in our yard around the base of a tree. I haven’t yet photographed them.

This one was different than the ones we have in our yard, but very close. They are really pretty little things.

Thanks, Cherry Blossom! I may have some prints made of these. I can see them at approx. 11″X16″ on my screen and they look nice at that size.

I do too. I also contemplate the fact that this beautiful little plant would never be seen except by those who see these photos. There is so much of Nature’s beauty that is never seen.
