Fall sampler

So far it’s only the low-growing plants that are starting to turn color, and it struck me that they seemed to be testing their color palettes before making a full commitment to fall.

Then there is the hold-out who just isn’t getting ready for winter at all!

  1. I do love those autumn colors! I think I am most partial to the yellows. 😛

  2. I know you like yellows. I thought about that when I saw these yellow leaves. Wait until the aspen and larch start “blooming”!

  3. I began to see those signs as well on my hike in the Catskills. The colors look to be phenomenal this year.

  8. Wordvixen,

That one was a surprise. It’s a vine and seems to be in full bloom now just as the nights are approaching the freezing point.

  9. Wow,…. and isn’t that first one poison ivy? It’s such a lovely plant with the berries, and then changing color in fall, but whoooeeee,..don’t touch! I remember the old saying,..”leaves of three, leave it be!” My favorite is your fifth shot,… I like the composition of the photo. Nice!

  10. I think it is poison ivy. I really don’t pay much attention to it now that the kids are grown because I have no reaction to it.

Thanks! I thought that fifth shot looked as though it was a leaf display just waiting for a photo.
