A few evenings ago these little aircraft showed up near our back door, drawn by the fluorescent light from a bug zapper. Fortunately, they were too large to fit between the shield bars but stayed around long enough for a photo.
On a wood cutting trip into the high country on the same day, this Bear Grass blossom just had to be photographed with its tiny resident, a yellow Crab Spider.
We share this world with some interesting little neighbors!
Insects are truly fascinating and beautiful creatures, but I prefer to “enjoy” the spiders from a very long distance or simply in photos (if I can bring myself to look). It’s a shame arachnophobia is so powerful within me. I can almost appreciate their beauty at times. The moths are lovely.

There are a few spiders that I don’t care for, especially the Daddy Long Legs (which tent to bite a lot) and the Black Widow, which is quite dangerous, but I appreciate the others for all of the other insects that they rid us of. I think they’re here to balance the insect world.

The little crab spiders are cool, if you’re not an insect, that is.

Indeed spiders are essential for balance in nature.

We have an occasional wolf spider in the house, usually the bathroom and I always carefully move it outside where it can do more good and not spook anyone.

I do try to save them and not kill them, or get someone to save them for me 😛

My wife, too, wants to save them, but she calls me to move them, and that’s OK with me!

Yes, I love to see them and wonder at the diversity… and why.
