I think it’s just cold (hey, that’s my excuse in the winter… I don’t gain weight I’m just so cold I fluff up!) He is adorable… I’m surprised you have slate juncos over there (I should not be shocked really I read someplace the closer you get to Rockies the more they change…) very cool. btw – beautiful shot of usually very restless birds! (These guys take off if I just clear my throat… not an easy one to photograph!) He is beautiful!
I think this is one who spent the winter here and helped eat a hundred pounds of sunflower seeds. There’s usually a dozen or so in the yard somewhere. They are pretty little guys!
ROFL- Awesome caption & capture!

Sumedh,
Good thing she doesn’t have to fly far to the feeder!

Malcolm,
I think it’s a combination of a cold day and maybe one too many sunflower seeds.

Hahah, funny shot! It’s funny how much a birds shape can change when their feathers are fluffed up!

Yes, they can really puff up. I have down vests and jackets, so I can understand how warm they really are when they fluff up like that.

That is one fat bird, great shot Terry, kinda debunks that old saying that someone eats like a bird 🙂

I will have to make him slim down some before he gets to go to the feeder, huh!

Thanks, Janet! She was cold and maybe that’s why she let me get close and posed so well.
