He’s just a youngster, but he knows where all the apple trees are.
This guy is in really, really big trouble because he ate a bunch of my wife’s favorite flowers last night.

Yes, he’s a pretty little buck. The other night he had a larger friend with him, but I couldn’t get a shot at him. He had lots of hardware!

Yes, the cooler temperatures are getting everything motivated. We’re seeing a lot of bear activity and increased deer activity, especially with bucks. All the critters are trying to put on those last extra pounds of fat before winter. This morning it was 28ยบ here and that kind of temperature stimulates them a lot.

He is pretty, Mary, but now he’s getting too bold. That won’t be good come hunting season. I’ll start trying to put a good scare into him soon or he will end up in someone’s freezer.

These critters keep nibbling on our apple trees, pretty much ensuring that if I don’t keep spraying them (the trees), neither the deer nor us are ever going to see any fruit.
Surprisingly, the deer have also been taking after the leaves on our jalapeno pepper plants.

The deer have eaten about everything in our yard in the last couple weeks. Garden plants, flowers, lilacs and as high as they can reach in the apple trees. Now they seem to be alternating nights with a black bear. I don’t remember them eating jalapenos though, but we usually grow ours in the greenhouse.
I feel really sorry for the bears because the berries in the higher elevations dried up very early this year, but there is all kinds of stuff for the deer to eat out there. A few minutes ago we watched a very big 4X4 stroll through the back yard.
