Maybe this is why the coyotes sing.

Two sentries, standing tall and strong at dusk in the cool Montana air, awaiting whatever the night will bring..

There are still a few more shots of Thompson River that I want to post, but it may take awhile. I just don’t have the connection speed I’d like. So, while I’m waiting for the photos to upload to Flickr (these are especially large files) I make short sorties outside to check on the stars, moon, river, bears; whatever is of interest out there this time of night.

There are at least two bears that come in to feed on our apples every few nights and they treat the yard kind of like a public rest room. I’ve started taking a “bear thumper” with me when I go out at night now. Last night was easy: when I went out there were three deer at the tree. That said “no bears”.

Tonight the stars are bright, the moon is so bright that’s it’s nearly blinding and there’s a big coyote very close by singing an aria, followed by a chorus from the other members of his pack and answered immediately by another vocal group across the river. Night time is often better than the day!
