As a young boy accustomed to spending time along stream and river beds, a plant that caught my attention and imagination was mint. It’s easily identified (just crush a leaf and sniff it if you’re wondering), pretty, and has a very pleasant smell. After the dandelion and maybe a couple of other wildflowers, mint was one of the first plants I could identify in my early years. I see it every time I fish the streams around here and it’s always a welcome sight. I nearly always have a few stalks of it mixed in with the green leaves and grass that keep the trout I have caught fresh in my creel.
