Stormy sky

Filed under: Clouds, Environment, Montana, Nature, Outdoors, Photography, Photos, Pictures, Storm clouds, Sunsets — montucky @ 3:33 pm

Last evening during an interlude between two thunder storms I took this photo. It was black overhead and to the west from the storm, but there was a light show going on due east. Storms in the mountains sometimes have strange twists.

Storm clouds

  1. Wow what a shot. If someone painted such a scene it would be dismissed as unnatural. Nature is full of surprises.

  2. Yes, nature is full of surprises. Last night it was like looking through a kaliedeoscope. Thanks for visiting!

  3. Thats awesome Terry, I love the light on the clouds, we just had a killer thunderstorm this afternoon, lost one tree numerous limbs and power which we just got back on and another inch of rain. That on top of my remodeling woes, go figure.

  4. Yes, Bernie, you needed a good storm to go along with the remodeling. I’ve been chuckling about that since I read it, but it probably isn’t all that humorous to you at the moment.

  5. That “Clunk” you heard was just my jaw hitting the floorboards as I surfed onto your site and spotted this photo.

Don’t be alarmed…I’ll be all right.

  6. Usually, I work very hard for my photos, or at least to get to where they are. Today for example, I hiked 8 miles and brought back 14 shots that were worth keeping.

This one however was taken from my front yard last night and the only requirement was that I was awake enough to see it. It’s actually my favorite in a sequence of about a dozen taken as the clouds moved and the light changed.

  8. Thanks, wolf. It was lucky that I happened to go out to check on the weather conditions and saw the light show. I’ll take it!

  9. The way the clouds are streamlining across the sky.. it reminds me a bit of starry night (van Gogh) – And in a way this works better than starry night because in that work your eyes never find a place of peace – but this does. For me anyway the peace is found in that bright little cloud cluster at the base of the tree line to the right.

what a fabulous shot. I’ve been looking over your work as of late and my goodness you are creating masterpeices (and they are all over your blog.) I completely love watching you get better and better at this frustrating craft! This is (in my not so humble opinion) the best photograph that has graced your pages. (And wow, that’s saying something because you are producing amazing shots daily!)

  10. Thank you, aullori! I appreciate your comments and value your opinions.

I think the technical part is getting better as I understand more of how the camera thinks. So much of this kind of photography though is just having the opportunity to capture the beauty that’s part of the outdoors.

  13. I would like permission to use this image in a non-profit publication for the State of Montana, assuming the photo was taken in Montana. It is absolutely beautiful!

  14. Carolyn,
Thanks! I’m pleased that you liked the photo. I would like to know what the publication is first, but there shouldn’t be a problem. I sent you an email.
