Nearly overlooked

Filed under: Flowers, Montana, Nature, Outdoors, Photography, Photos, Pictures, Wildflowers — montucky @ 10:11 am

Nearly hidden among the tall grasses on a mountainside a couple of weeks ago was a tiny speck of pink. Upon closer inspection it turned out to be this little bouquet. The whole top of this plant is only a quarter of an inch across. There is often great beauty in small, quiet, unassuming things.

Pink, unknown

Collomia linearis,   narrow-leaf mountain-trumpet

  1. That looks amazing, any idea what kind of flower it could be?
    Heh, “this little bouquet”, made me laugh. 🙂

  2. I really don’t know what it is. Possibly a Rocky Mountains Beeplant, but I can’t tell for sure. I’m not skilled at identifying plants! Pretty little thing, though.

    Thanks for the visit!

  3. I agree with your unassuming quote by the way (thanks for the reminder) … lots of things to say here – wow, first great shot. I like how it darkened around it to draw the eye to the center. These tiny flowers are pretty difficult to identify. They are all around here and I’ve been hunting for this same species myself for quite awhile now. :o( darn! So far no luck. So, like you, I have to simply appreciate it for it’s beauty until I run into a touch of irish luck.

  4. I haven’t seen a lot of these and this may be one just starting to bloom. It may even be some kind of weed. I was struck by it because the color is a very different shade of pink. I’ll keep looking for the ID though.

  5. Collomia linearis? I’ve been hunting out this fellow and eventually found it on a page that listed wildflowers that lewis and clark collected on their trip thru our area. Hopefully this is your flower;
