  1. That is SO beautiful! What a shot.

    Comment by wordsfromanneli — January 28, 2013 @ 12:05 am

    • Thanks Anneli. Fortunately the photo caught the scene that drew me to it.

  2. This is magical! I love it.

    Comment by Jo Woolf — January 28, 2013 @ 12:29 am

    • Thanks Jo. The moon can be so pretty as it rises. There’s just a brief time to catch it though.

      Comment by montucky — January 28, 2013 @ 8:00 pm

  3. Great photo, Montucky.

    Comment by Malcolm R. Campbell — January 28, 2013 @ 12:29 am

    • Thanks Malcolm. Digital photography is great: I wouldn’t have tried this shot with film.

      Comment by montucky — January 28, 2013 @ 8:01 pm

  4. Beautiful shot!
Looks like it’s playing hide & seek ;-)

    Comment by TheDailyClick — January 28, 2013 @ 5:11 am

    • It did seem to be. Soon after this photo the moon ducked back into the clouds.

  5. Nice Shot!

    Comment by New Hampshire Gardener — January 28, 2013 @ 5:19 am

    • Thanks! I usually try for a night shot and sometimes they turn out OK!

  7. Haughtingly beautiful.

  8. Branches in full silhouette by the moon makes a wonderful photo!

    Comment by WildBill — January 28, 2013 @ 7:38 am

    • They sure do! Those Antelope Bitterbush are favorites of mine too because of how good they are for the deer in a tough winter.

      Comment by montucky — January 28, 2013 @ 8:08 pm

  9. To paraphrase the estimable Bill Monroe: “Full moon of montucky, keep on shining…” A beautiful image with quite a sense of movement where the clouds sweep around the moon.

    Comment by shoreacres — January 28, 2013 @ 8:06 am

    • Movement is right. When there are clouds like that around the moon has lots of ways to be exciting … or hide.

  10. That is one of the best moonrise shots I’ve seen. I love its qualities, the colors, it’s really quite stunning.

    Comment by Teresa Evangeline — January 28, 2013 @ 8:39 am

  11. I couldn’t resist setting it as my new desktop background….

    Comment by Teresa Evangeline — January 28, 2013 @ 8:40 am

    • At first I thought it might be too dark, on the moody side, but I finally decided that I really liked it.

      Comment by montucky — January 28, 2013 @ 8:11 pm

  12. Ominous!

    Comment by jomegat — January 28, 2013 @ 11:29 am

    • Yes, it has that potential to it, doesn’t it!

  14. Hi Montucky, Love that Apricot-colored Moonlight on those clouds in your picture. Outstanding Moonrise. Have a great coming week!

    Comment by wildlifewatcher — January 28, 2013 @ 3:10 pm

    • It’s a little surprising to see that color in the night sky, but it makes a pretty scene, doesn’t it!

      Comment by montucky — January 28, 2013 @ 8:14 pm

  15. Eerie but beautiful all at the same time. Watching the moon rise in the sky captures my attention, but I’ve never been able to capture a satisfying photo. Where’s the love button when you need it? I don’t just like this one, Montucky, I love it.

    Comment by Mama's Empty Nest — January 28, 2013 @ 3:30 pm

    • I’m glad you like it! I reviewed this photo many times before I decided to post it, knowing that the probability was that each person would see it differently.

  18. Wonderful shot. There is magic in night vistas too and you captured it.

    Comment by Grampy — January 29, 2013 @ 2:07 am

    • I wish that I had taken that while camped in the high country. It seemed that the moon was making an invitation to an interesting night.

  19. Sweet shot !!!!

    Comment by Bernie Kasper — January 29, 2013 @ 8:05 am

  20. Wow, that is gorgeous. I was out shooting the moon the other night, too, but I didn’t have the pretty surroundings.

    Comment by Candace — January 29, 2013 @ 10:09 pm

    • I just happened to catch this at the right time. To the east of our house there is a hill and as I happened to look out that way the moon was just rising above the top of it.

      Comment by montucky — January 29, 2013 @ 10:28 pm

  21. Magic photo. I can well imagine that a wolf howls nearby its face raised to moon.

    Comment by Sartenada — February 1, 2013 @ 1:03 am

    • I would bet that happened a few miles further up on the mountain.

      Comment by montucky — February 1, 2013 @ 9:51 pm
