Mid winter is what memory and photographs are for. I can close my eyes and feel the cool breeze that was blowing across the top of the peak when I took this photo on June 21, 2007.
(Photo of the peaks of the Cherry Peak roadless area, taken from the top of Sunset Peak, just above USFS trail 385T in the Coeur d’Alene Mountains of western Montana.)

So beautiful! It’s just lovely the way the humps of the hills are all merging towards the middle with symmetry!
One can almost imagine a little girl, like Heidi, running all over one of those mountains with outstretched arms – the innocent joy which can truly commune with nature without inhibitions and guilt!
Beautiful place.

Many of the blogs I’m reading this morning are longing for, or at least remembering warmer times… It’s only January, people! Buck up! Embrace the Winter!

Sumedh,
Those peaks do represent such an area. They are wild and un-touched (the photo was taken from the nearest trail). While they don’t look like it, the highest of them is about a thousand feet above the one from which I took the photo.

winterwoman,
My yearning here is not for the season, but the place. It’s one of my favorites and as much as I’d love to be up there in winter, it just isn’t possible. The snow up top is 20 feet deep, and even with a snowmobile trip to the trail head, it’s another 5 mile hike to where this scene is visible. I can only imagine what it looks like there now.

Pfft, don’t tell me you’re put off by a mere 5 mile snow hike, Terry

At the moment I am, but my snowshoes are at the ready. If I could just get to that trail head…

What a beautiful area. The hills and peaks are so inviting.
I can almost feel that cool breeze too.

It’s a place I never tire of visiting. From that peak, there are beautiful views in all other directions too.
